Canton Mambo

The Canton Mambo project began in 2018 as an archival research project exploring the intersections between Asian and Latin music. Led by Hong Kong-born DJ, producer and vinyl collector Gia Fu, that research eventually made its way onto the dancefloor through a series of parties celebrating the sounds and histories she uncovered.

From there came the Canton Mambo 7-inch split, thoughtfully bringing Afro-Latin rhythms together with the guzheng, a traditional Chinese string instrument. Rooted in the spirit of the dancefloor and improvisation, the project invites curiosity around two musical worlds and the unexpected connections between them.

This limited-edition pressing of Canton Mambo continues that idea through the physical record. Pressed on standard-weight 7-inch Coke Bottle White Mist (MD232), the rippling translucent effect recalls jade stone and nods to the Hong Kong roots that inspired the project. The record comes in a single-pocket jacket with a printed insert featuring illustrations and track notes.
